Good thought--no I don't have OE tires, they are Kelly Explorers with a max PSI of 44. If the OE tires need the higher pressures (didn't even think to look inside the door) then this could indeed be the (simple) problem.

EDIT: Yeah I just went-out and looked and 48/44 is right, so the obvious question is "at what point are the TPMS sensors unhappy" and it's likely 40 cuz I think that's where my Kellys are hovering now. I will bump them to their max 44 psi and that should fix the problem.

Thanks again and I too vote for a "redesigned system" at least one which does not hold my odometer hostage to sensor problems!
