Lightbulb Nissan NV200 - Flashing Airbag Light - Clock Spring

For a number of months my Nissan NV200 had a flashing airbag light - with dealer level diagnostics a simple reset would not clear the light and would repeatedly reappear.

I established the issue was the clock spring which was behind the steering wheel the same problem occurs on many other Nissan models

Removal of the Airbag and Steering Wheel was required unfortunately the right hand side retaining screw for the airbag was a complete pain in the backside to get out due to the security screw being over tightened this resulted in a rounded security screw which i then had to cut away part of the steering wheel cover to gain complete access with mole grips to remove the bolt.

Once the cover the airbag was removed the steering wheel was removed easily there is the connector for the airbag to remove.

2 Phillips Screws hold the Clock Spring in place and one retaining clip the electrical connectors easily unplug by depressing the tabs on them.

Dealership quoted 279+VAT for the clock spring replacement. I sourced a brand new aftermarket replacement for 13.47 from eBay. Part No: 25567-EB60A

It requires some modification the part i sourced was from eBay it is the Clock Spring with a single airbag cable with a Yellow Connector designed to fit the Navara, Qashqai, Pathfinder and Xtrail.

Side by side the original and new clock springs look identical there are more pins coming through the connectors to which the horn connects however this does not affect the functionality and everything works as it should post fitment

On the reverse the diameter of the shroud which mates with the steering column is smaller on the new clock spring this requires cutting i achieved this best by cutting the shroud down by approximately 1cm all round using a Dremel. With this removed i could then seat the new clock spring to the steering column nice and snug and reconnect all of the connectors and tighten the two Phillips screws.

Steering Wheel Bolted and Torqued / Airbag Reconnected and screwed in . Connected the diagnostics machine and cleared all the Airbag Control Module of any faults. Tested Wipers and Indicator Stalk functionality and a good road test with lots of bends and round abouts and success no airbag lights returned!

I am happy to assist any UK owners with this if they need help with this just drop me a message.

Thank you so much for this information, we are having the same trouble with our Nissan NV200. We were also quoted an insane amount for a replacement. Our trouble is that we live in New Zealand so they are not as popular over here, so were quoted a crazy amount for the part. Ridiculous. I have just purchased this part you suggested so hoping it will work. I'm also going to try to fix the old part just to see if it is possible. It seems crazy the entire unit has to be replaced when it's just the ribbon that has broken, should be able to just buy the ribbon
Thanks again
