Need Tire Help...Please

Are options for our vans very limited, or am I just clueless so much about this load rating stuff that I don't know what to ask for? I don't really want to change the factory rims out, this is a work van and spending money on rims isn't in the budget, but I would like a pair of decent road tires, hopefully more than a 30k tire, that improves handling and road noise a bit from the cheapo factories the van shipped with.

Can anyone provide some feedback on
a: What I need to consider for load rating? I rarely have the van loaded down, and if I do, it's with 4 dogs and maybe 200 pounds of gear.
b: More of a road tire, akin to something on a sedan or family car than a "cargo van tire" that will fit the factory wheels and is readily available in the US?
Thanks so much for anyone's input.

Look for either a 185/60R15 XL tire (same size as OEM). Load index will be slighly lower (88 reducing your payload a bit). You can also go with a 195/60R15XL. Only 2% bigger (92 load index so you should be close to the OEM).

Here's a link to a Nissan document on the subject.

hope this helps

I have a 2013 nv200 that i got new in May 2013 that now has 80,000 miles on it , that i was having tire issues with and replaced with 185 60 15 88t tire. The replacment tires did last longer then the amarican cargo tires, but in the long run I ended up with all 4 rims bent. I replaced all 4 rims and bumped up the tire size to a 205 65 15 95t. Personaly I think they look way better on the van. Now this does throw off the spedometer . At 70 mph the van is traveling 73, not a big deal to me.

Thanks for the input. I have money burning a hole in my pocket to spend on decent tires, but no shop around here seems capable at the slightest of suggesting anything other than a 30k cargo tire.

Eric, where did you get the rims for your new tire size?

I pick up the tires and rims at tirerack.com shiped to my house, total with shipping $763.08. You put the year and style of van /car and they will make sure it fits. You can call them as well and they will help, My new rims had to have a center hole spacer that they sent with the new rims. They will mount and balance the new tires on your new rims for free too. I did not have them do this because I used the old tire pressure sensors.

I too have questions about replacement tires for the NV200 that we bought in December of 2013. I found out that at the last dealer service, the mechanic changed the tire pressure right at 40 psi which when cold the pressure alert would come on. I queried about replacement tires in the future and I learned what you folks already know. The only exact replacement is at Nissan for $171 apiece. I went over to Les Schwab and I stumped them. The pressure has to be 44/48 in order to keep the warning light to come on. The people at Nissan hinted that there could be warranty issues if I changed the tire size. Les Schwab is going to search for a replacement to work.
Thanks, John

New tires

I have new tires now. I bought Continental 205/65RT/R15 tires at The Tire Factory. They look and work perfectly and look so much better than the OEM tires. They said Goodyear tires in that size are on long back order so I chose the Continentals.

Nexen makes a Euro-Win 600 exact replacement for about half the price of the OEM tire. A tire store that deals in Nexen should be able to order them.

I am trying calculate whether the mileage is off with my new tires all that much. According to the mileage average indicator on the dash, my mileage has dropped on average, 2 MPG. The speedometer reading is different on the Garmin GPS by 4 MPH, however. Should I assume that the GPS is more accurate and then simply lower or raise the speed based on it rather than the dash speedometer?
Thanks, John

Looks like your speedo will be off by 7.4% I think.
